Day 6 Christmas Note

Day 6 Christmas Note

Today’s note was pretty good timing as Ella and I just went out yesterday for our Christmas shopping date. We had a great time and it is obviously building good memories for her as we hadn’t had one yet this year when she wrote this note for me.

Day 6 Christmas Note

Very Modest

Ella and I went out on a Christmas shopping date today. When we were sitting having a treat I tried sneaking a picture of her. She asked if I just took a picture of her but I jokingly denied it. She came and looked at my phone and I showed her the pictures I took. She gave me a bit of an irritate look so I explained I just couldn’t help it she’s so cute. Her response:

Well you got that part right!

Noah and Daddy Time

The past few days Noah and I have been able to spend quite a bit of time together. We started the weekend out with Saturday morning basketball. This is his second year in basketball but we switched this year to a new program. This one is part of Jr NBA which includes each kid getting their own smaller basketball and NBA team T-Shirt. Noah got to choose between OKC Thunder, San Antonio Spurs, and Golden State Warriors, he choose the Spurs. There were also the Toronto Raptors to choose from, but they were gone by the time Noah choose. The parents don’t always get involved but this time I did. We practised chest passing back and forth and had a fun game where we had to pass our way across the gym.

We spent most of the rest of Saturday painting Noah’s room. We swapped rooms with Alexandria and let Noah choose a new wall colour. The room was previously pink and blue, two walls of each, Noah kept the blue and choose a green, clean n crisp, for the other two walls. I’m not a fan of painting and for some reason it took us four coats to cover the pink over. In the end he was very happy though so it makes it worth it.

Sunday afternoon he and I went out together on a bit of a shopping date. Each year we take the kids out to pick out Christmas presents for their siblings. It’s pretty early this year to get started but we had an afternoon free and the weeks seem to fly by, so we decided to just do it. When we were done shopping we stopped for a treat of his choice at Tim Hortons.

Noah seems to be really liking math and numbers lately, especially number patterns. The one he really likes is the power of twos. He doesn’t really know what that is but he starts out with 2 + 2, then 4 + 4, then 8 + 8 etc. Tonight he went on sticky notes up to 2^13 (4096 + 4096 = 8192). It seemed to be the perfect opportunity to teach him my cell phone number which ends in 2^10. He was pretty impressed with that and it’s one of the reasons it’s my favourite number I’ve ever had.

Christmas Shopping with Noah

Today I was able to get out on my first shopping date with one of the kids for the year. We’ve started drawing names so each Jen and I take out two kids individually to pick out small gifts for their siblings and have a treat with Mom or Dad.

We had some ideas before we went on what he wanted to get them and as luck would have it we could get all three at the same store!

We timed it around lunch time because for his treat Noah wanted a cheese burger. Trying to be good I packed a wrap and apple for myself to eat right before we pulled in so I wouldn’t be tempted by McDonalds food.

Once I had Noah all setup with his happy meal I tried opening his toy for him and knocked over my full hot coffee all over my foot and floor. Just the kind of scene I wanted in a busy restaurant. Noah thought it was kind of amusing and we were both impressed the have me a new one when I went to tell them what I had done.

Besides that mishaps we had a fun time. Looking forward to getting out with Alexandria very soon as well.

One on One Kid Dates

One of my favourite traditions that we started a few years back, is to go out on one on one Christmas shopping dates with our kids.

It’s not very often that we get to spend time alone with one of the kids so it’s nice when we get to do it.

We put let the kids draw either a Mom or Dad name out of a hat. This way we each get two dates. This year it actually worked out the exact opposite as last year. Ella and Noah came with me while Alexandria and Caile went with Jen.

The kids choose where they want to shop and we go pick out little gifts for them to give their siblings. We keep it small so under $10 for each gift.

The shopping is only part of it though. We also let the kids pick out a little snack of some sort and we go and do that with them as well.

I did both my dates today. Noah wanted A cheeseburger for his snack so we went to McDonalds for lunch and then hit the shops. When we were done and home at a good time  Ella and I decided to head out in the afternoon for our date.

While Noah and I were able to do the shopping all in one store, with Ella we ended up at three different ones, but she was happy in the end with what she picked for everyone.

Then to top off the Big Mac I had for lunch, Ella and I had a hot fudge sundae from Dairy Queen. So many calories for a day but also a lot of fun too!
